YouTube’s first original content will be available to Red subscribers next week

YouTube Red subscribers already get an ad-free and offline video experience plus a subscription to Google Play Music as part of their monthly service. Starting on February 10, Red subscribers will also have access to YouTube’s first original content.

There four shows — the most notable is made by the creator and executive producers of The Walking Dead and stars popular YouTuber PewDiePie — will initially only be available for Red subscribers. However, as Red is currently only offered in the US, people from the rest of the world will be able to buy the shows and movies from their local Play Store after an initial exclusivity period.

TV shows (Lilly Singh’s A Trip to Unicorn Island and Scare PewDiePie) will be available one day after airing and movies including Dance Camp and Lazer Team will be out in a month. These are just the first original movies and shows of the year as YouTube competes with Netflix and Amazon to attract viewers to their service. The Google-owned service has the obvious benefit of a wide array of YouTubers that already have a large and established fan base.
