Android N factory images for the Nexus 6P, 5X, 6, 9, and Pixel C are now available to download

In a surprise move, Google announced today (as we told you earlier this morning) that the Android N developer preview is available for download. The simplest route is through the yet-to-be launched Android Beta Program, but as usual Google has also posted the factory images.

As we told you earlier, Android N features a split screen mode for both phones and tablets, redesigned quick settings, and quick reply from notifications. Under the hood, improvements to Project Svelte will improve performance on lower-end devices and Doze will also work when the screen is turned off.

For most users, downloading and installing via the Beta Program at g.co/androidbeta will be the fastest and easiest solution. The preview will be installed like any other OTA and users will get automatic updates to the latest version. As a reminder, Google warns the preview is “for developers only and not intended for daily use or consumer use.”

However, more technically adept users can install the developer preview via a computer. This install method will wipe any data on your device and is perfect for those who want a clean start. To begin the installation, select your device’s factory image and see our guide for full instructions:
