Chrome OS 69 rolling out w/ Google Material Theme, Night Light, Linux, dictation, more

Chrome OS 69 is rolling out today following the Android and desktop release last week. Version 69 includes the Google Material Theme to coincide with the browser’s 10th anniversary. Chrome 69 rolling out ‘Material Design refresh’ next month ‘across all operating systems’

Even before the Google Material Theme was showcased at I/O 2018, the Chrome team has been working on a big redesign for the browser that shares many similarities like rounded corners and stark white backgrounds. Available on both desktop and mobile, this “Material Design refresh” is now scheduled to begin rolling out in September with Chrome 69.

After successful HTTPS push, Chrome will soon remove ‘Secure’ badge from address bar

Google has long been a big proponent of pushing HTTPS as seen with the .app top-level domain where security is default and in Search rankings. The biggest adoption drive has been through Chrome, with the browser soon marking all HTTP sites as “Not secure.”

When that fully rolls out, Google will begin phasing out the green “Secure” badge and lock icon as security becomes the default expectation.
